Outdoor Educational Programs at Hilltop Hanover Farm for Afterschool and Preschool

Earth School Afterschool and Preschool Programs - at Hilltop Hanover Farm, in the Main Residence and outdoors in the Children's Peaceful Garden and on the trails of HH Farm.  A minimum of 4 children and a maximum of 8 per class.  Fee: $75 for each series of 4 classes.  Advance registration is required: 914-217-9249 or by email: somethinggooditw@aol.com

EARTH SCHOOL WORKSHOPS
AFTER SCHOOL AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

April 13 - June 3, 2010

Something Good in the World “Earth School” Workshops at The Children's Environmental Center at Hilltop Hanover Farm are based on a philosophy of the integration of learning with nature and the outdoors, along with arts-oriented, sensory, whole body experiences, and are designed for all kinds of learners.  Educators are trained professionals with extensive experience and a passion for sharing nature and the arts with children.  Hilltop Hanover Farm is a 183-acre environmental center owned by Westchester County, with acres of trails. 

 

 

All programs are held outdoors, rain or shine, and indoors at Hilltop Hanover Farm's Children's Environmental Education Center, Building “A” (Main Residence).

TUESDAYS
Session One: April 13, 20, 27, May 4
Session Two: May 11, 18, 25, June 1

1:30 - 2:30 p.m.
Cooking on the Farm (Sessions One and Two)
Workshops will focus on sensory learning, as children harvest seasonal vegetables, herbs, and fruits straight from our gardens, and learn how to prepare and cook delicious, healthy meals and snacks.

1:30 - 2:30 p.m. - Ages 3-5
3:30 - 4:30 p.m. - Ages 6-11

Natural Art and Design (Sessions One and Two)
Classes will include sensory games and clay play, collage, drawing, painting, creating environmental art and sculpture from materials found outdoors in nature.
Educator: William Giese
$75 per child per 4-week session
Limited to 12 children

About the Educators:

William Giese
teaches in a unique style that combines movement, teamwork, and improvisation with environmental art.  William received his training at the School for Visual Arts in NYC.  He is an accomplished illustrator, and has been a teacher of ages 4-64 at the Wooster Community Art Center in Danbury for 12 years, as well as for many afterschool and summer arts programs, including SGITW's Turtle Island Summer Camp and Earth School classes for homeschoolers.

Laurie Gershgorn has been SGITW's “cookshop” teacher for “Life on the Farm” and “Earth School-to-Farm” programs for children ages 3-12 for the past two years, as well as our Backyard Farmer instructor for adults and teens. She is a professional Nutritional Consultant, Food Educator, and Health Supportive Personal Chef.  Trained at the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts in NYC, Laurie develops customized balanced diets and food plans to match individual needs and goals, as well as specific health challenges.

All programs are aligned with New York State Core Curriculum requirements for each age group.
