A Night of Dance and Inspiration to Benefit Something Good

Award-Winning Teen Dancers Perform Together
in Charity Event
An Unforgettable Night of Dance at Peekskill’s
Paramount Center for the Arts
On Wednesday, April 20, 2004,
the nonprofit educational organization Something Good in
the World, Inc. will present a dazzling celebration of dance
at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Peekskill, NY. Internationally
recognized teen dancers will showcase their talent at this
special event to benefit The Blue Star Youth Movement, a
project of Something Good in the World, Inc.
While proceeds
will help provide funding for the many
programs offered by The Blue Star, the evening strikes an
even deeper chord: "A
person who is inspired by what they do is naturally inspiring
to others," says
Barbara Sarbin, President of Something Good in the World,
Inc. and Director of Youth Movement 2005. "Our dream
was to bring together young, highly qualified, talented dancers
to share the fruits of their efforts with their peers, in
order to inspire them to discover and pursue their own talents."
Indeed,
the roster of talent is staggering, spanning a broad range
of traditional and multicultural dance forms:
• Westchester-based
Rohini Rau Murthy, 18, acclaimed dancer of Bharata Natyam
(classical Indian dance), lauded by critics as “masterful,” with “the
maturity of a seasoned professional.”
• Siobhan Burke, 18, a freshman at Barnard College of Columbia
University, is among the top five Irish Step dancers in New
England and among the top 15 in North America in her age group.
• Kerith Kentish, 18, from the island nation of Anguilla, practices traditional
Caribbean Soca dance. Kerith’s Youth Movement
2005 performance is sponsored by the Anguilla Progressive
Association of New York.
• Itsa and Bear Shash, ages 16 and 18, are traditional Native American
dancers
from Colorado, appearing also with Isa Roske, 16, who has been
performing Aztec ceremonial dance since childhood.
• Manhattan-based Justin Adams Pallais, 15, a homeschooler whose
Rhythm Tap dancing lights up a room and all the people in
it.
• Westchester-based Telorea Miller, 16, is on scholarship within
the preprofessional training program for the Dance Theatre
of Harlem. "My feet express my positions in life," says Harvard freshman
and Youth Movement dancer Rohini Rau-Murthy. "They allow
me to tell a story or take a stand... My feet are my vehicle
for expression."
With
the increasingly challenging world that teens are facing,
just
one night of pure inspiration can have a profound effect.
And if anything can cause that inspiration, it is this amazing
group of teens.Video footage from Youth Movement 2004 is
available for viewing,
and the
dancers and director are available for interviews. To arrange
for viewing or interviews, please call Barbara Sarbin at
